Published catalogue
A chemical portrait of a million giants.
Stellar parameters and elemental abundances from low-resolution LAMOST DR8 spectra, opening a window onto the chemical history of the Milky Way.
Explore the catalogueThe question
What can a spectrum tell us?
Large spectroscopic surveys carry chemical information about stellar populations. This work estimates stellar parameters and elemental abundances from 1.2 million low-resolution spectra, representing about one million distinct giants and subgiants.
The approach
From spectra to stellar labels.
A convolutional neural network learns from LAMOST DR8 spectra paired with stellar parameters and abundances from APOGEE DR17. It carries that label scale to a much larger sample of giants; the paper assesses the precision and limitations of the inferred labels.
The resource
A catalogue for Galactic archaeology.
The value-added catalogue supports studies of stellar populations and the chemical evolution of the Milky Way. The LAMOST data release provides the catalogue entry and associated documentation.
